ITIL® stands for the IT Infrastructure Library. It emerged during the 1980’s in the UK as a set of high level processes for providing consistent, low risk IT service management to an organisation. The copyright is owned by the Office of Government Commerce [OGC (formerly known as CCTA)] and is covered in several publications from the British Standards Institution (BSI). Professional qualifications are available for ITIL at Foundation, Practitioner and full “Red Badge” Service Manager Certification. Additionally, those already holding ITIL v2 Certification can take the ‘Managers Bridging Course’ and examination to become ITIL v3 Service Manager Diploma Certified. Select ITIL v2 or ITIL v3 from within the “What is ITIL” menu to read ITIL overview introductions and find out more about the different versions of ITIL.
